EAC Partner States Convene in Mombasa to Harmonize Health Professional Guidelines
Mombasa, Kenya – January 2025
Delegates from East African Community (EAC) partner states gathered in Mombasa for a landmark meeting to harmonize guidelines and checklists for all health professionals across the region. The five-day event brought together key stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, policymakers, and health sector experts, to strengthen regional healthcare standards and promote cross-border collaboration.
The meeting was officially opened by the Principal Secretary (PS), for Pupblic Health and Professional Standards, Ms. Mary Muthoni who underscored the significance of a unified approach to health regulation.
During the discussions, participants shared insights and experiences, focusing on aligning policies and creating consistent frameworks for healthcare delivery. The initiative aims to facilitate the mobility of health professionals, improve service delivery, and safeguard patient safety across the region.
Closing the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary (CS), Ministry of Health, Dr. Debra Mulongo Barasa lauded the progress made and emphasized the importance of regional integration in health. The meeting highlighted the EAC’s dedication to fostering regional cooperation in addressing health challenges. Stakeholders acknowledged that while the process of harmonization would require time and continued collaboration, the foundation laid in Mombasa marks a critical step forward.
