The Council inspects institutions intending to mount programmes for training of Clinical Officers through training and accreditation. The Council approves and reviews curricula and competency manuals for Clinical Officers and undertakes regular inspection of training institutions to ensure maintenance of quality. The Council conducts indexing of all students undertaking Clinical Medicine in accredited training institutions. The Council administers the pre-internship examination before one-year internship commences.
The Council registers all Clinical Officers upon successful completion of 1-year internship in approved internship Hospitals.
The Council issues a practicing license to a qualified Clinical officer to practice both in public and private sector. Professional practicing license is renewable annually and is a requirement for all COs; and the Clinical Officers in private practice to renew their private practicing licenses annually. The renewal of both licenses takes in to consideration CPD points and observation of professional standards and ethics. The Council also issues an internship license.
