CPD is part of a lifelong learning experience adopted in training for updating the professional’s knowledge after completion of basic training.


It hinges on 3 pillars namely:

LEARNING: that occurs in context of the daily work place, is more relevant and appropriate.

CHALLENGES: on CPD, is the management of the interface between the requirement of the professional bodies and those of the employers, managers and patients in trust and primary care groups.

POLITICAL CLIMATE: Due to changes in political climate, litigations, professionals need to be accountable, cost effective and perform best practices.

  • Part folios are a useful tool which can be used to plan, record and incorporate personal development plans which form a basis for appraisal.
  • Provides personal learning needs.
  • Provides primary care needs, specialized learning in departments.
  • Self confidence in a profession, culture of correcting one another by peers is enhanced.

  • The course offered during CPD program do not guarantee awarding of a professional practicing licensing.
  • But the courses can be validated and have points awarded
  • CPD should help an officer to be able to be promoted from one grade to another.
  • It should help setting up standards of performance

  • Standards of practice in professional and regulatory bodies are able to be maintained.
  • CPD will help to safe guard the public from malpractices.
